I started painting animal portraits many years ago when my beloved cat Henry passed and I spontaneously decided to paint him. It was a natural way for me to honor our years of companionship and I had been working on some murals at the time full of forest animals. After that I painted my dogs and then friends’ dogs as gifts because I enjoyed it so much and they loved them too! I started to get commissions and since then have had more and more requests.
Over the years I honed my skills and developed a more photo realistic style focusing on the details of their faces and especially the eyes which communicate so much. I was trained at art school in traditional painting techniques and use a combination of acrylics and oil glazes to create rich color and depth. I work from one main photograph for the painting and work with clients to choose the best one that captures their animal. This process is very special to me as I have lived with and loved many dogs and cats. I understand the special bond between human and animal and it is a privilege for me to immortalize your pet in paint.
I am originally from England and studied painting at Winchester School of Art. Later I traveled and lived in India and Japan for a time until I moved to San Francisco in 1994 and completed my Masters program in Fine Art. In 1999 I moved to New York. My company 'Transformational Spaces' specializes in murals, decorative finishes and custom artwork in and around the New York area on both private and commercial projects. Please feel free to inquire about any kind of custom art work.
